Scanning is turning a physical image, typically on paper, into a computer graphic. The image can be anything visible; a picture, a text or a photograph.
How to do it
For scanning under Linux, best use the program xsane.
TroubleShooting
If your scanner can only be accessed from the user root, change the permissions of your scanner:
sudo chmod 777 -R /dev/bus/usb/*
